Creating and editing transactional emails

BrightTALK has nine different "transactional" emails that can be customized or disabled.  This guide will walk you through how to do that. 

 

How do I enable/disable transactional emails?

To enable or disable a transactional email, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Channel in BrightTALK Central
  2. Click "Settings" from the top
  3. Click on "Channel Emails":

  4. Click "Edit" next to the email template you wish to enable or disable
  5. Click the "Status" toggle in the upper right.  Green means this email is enabled, grey means it's disabled:

What's the difference between the "Default", "Advanced", "Legacy", and "Basic" templates?

When you view the templates page, you may notice that your templates have different "flags" indicating if they are "Default", "Advanced", "Legacy", or "Basic" templates.

Here is a quick breakdown of what those flags mean:

  • Default: This is BrightTALK's base template that comes with your Channel license.  This template cannot be edited and will be automatically enabled if no other template is available.
  • Advanced:  These are templates created through the "advanced" email editor (aka "Build your own template").  They are only editable through this editor moving forward.
  • Legacy:  These are templates created in our legacy email editor.  Unfortunately, they are not editable since we cannot guarantee the code will work in our new editing tools.
  • Basic:  These are templates created through the "basic" email editor (aka "Use the BrightTALK template").  They are only editable through this editor moving forward.

 

How do I edit or create new transactional email templates?

To edit an existing template or create a new template, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Channel in BrightTALK Central   
  2. Click the "Settings" tab and select "Channel emails"

  3. Then click "Edit" next to the email you wish to change
  4. To edit an email, select a template to edit.  Otherwise to create, click "Create new template" and select one of the options on the following screen:
  • Use the BrightTALK template: Which is our basic editor that while requiring no coding experience, only allows for the high-level branding elements of the email to be changed (i.e. the colors and the company logo).
  • Build your own template: This is our advanced "WYSIWYG" editor that allows you to enter your own HTML code and use our merge fields.  The merge fields are available via the dropdown menus in the editor (for a full explanation of how the merge fields work see this guide).

5. Edit your email per your liking and click "Next"

6. On the final step, depending on the email type, you may need to select content before proceeding.  This will give you the ability to generate a preview of this content in the viewer and send test(s) to your email(s) of choice.

Note: Currently the selected content will not appear in the test email.
